Hugh has been Rector of CEC since February 2012. Before that he was a Vicar in various parishes in St David’s Diocese in Wales. He has a particular interest in spiritual development, conducting retreats and quiet days, and has acted as spiritual director to several individuals. He was Provincial Officer for Youth and Children’s Work for the Church in Wales for 7 years and has worked for the full inclusion of children and young people in church life. He is the author of “A Fitting End: making the most of a funeral”, a book on funerals, and used to lecture on funerals at St Michael’s College, Llandaff. He also taught communication skills for Cardiff University’s Diploma of Pastoral Studies, and has, more recently, been a personal tutor and lectured in Church History on the South Wales Ordination course. He also contributed to “A Guide to Parish Youth Work” and several other publications.
Within our own Diocese of Connecticut, he chairs the Haitian Mission Advisory Group, and has acted as a chaplain at Camp washington.
His other interests include playing chess, tai chi, walking the dog and a little gardening.
Director of Music Ministries: Jesse Nathan Glaude
Jesse is a summa cum laude graduate of the Westminster Choir College, where he studied sacred music, choral conducting, organ and harpsichord. Among the honors garnered there, he was named an Andrew J. Rider Scholar for distinguished academic achievement, was elected to membership in the National Music Honor Society Pi Kappa Lambda, and was organ scholar at the prestigious Nassau Presbyterian Church. His primary professors included Mark A. Anderson (organ), Gerard Farrell (Gregorian chant), Robin Leaver (sacred music), Robert Carwithen (improvisation), James Jordan and Andrew Megill (choral conducting).
Jesse has been Director of Music at Christ Episcopal Church in downtown Norwich, Connecticut since 2005. He is founder and Executive Director of the Christ Church School of the Arts and of the Chamber Music at Christ Church series; each created to enrich the artistic life of the community through both professional instruction and performance.
Jesse Glaude is Past Dean of the New London County Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and chairs the Guild's committee for New Organist Development - which annually awards the Roberta Bitgood Scholarship to young musicians seeking a career in the field.
We stopped employing an Administrative Assistant in 2013. The Office is now run by a number of volunteers from the congregation. These include: Jim Baltzell (our treasurer), Debbie Kimball, Dale Eichholz, Dawn Erardy and Janet Koch at present. We would welcome more volunteers for this important task. The church office is normally open Tuesday to Friday from 10.00am to 2.00pm. We are now working more closely with the office at St Mark Lutheran Church, where Linda Mandell is the office administrator.
Christ Church School of the Arts Administrative Assistant: Dawn Erardy
Dawn has been the Administrative Assistant for Christ Church School of the Arts, Inc. (CCSArts) since September 2015. She manages the School's business and administrative affairs as well as coordinates student and faculty schedules. From January 2016 this post will be fully funded by CCSArts and Dawn's office hours will normally be Tuesday through Thursday 10am to 4pm.
Sexton: In 2014 we stopped employing a sexton and those duties are now covered by volunteer members of the church.
