We all agree that there is insufficient commitment to continuing the blending process among the members of both churches at present, and that there is now little point in trying to continue. Rather than drag it out to the end of the year, we think it better to act sooner rather than later. So the question is how best to bring the process to a close, fairly and effectively, with the least damage and maintaining the best relationships possible. We also hope that the friendships and co-operation in ministries that we have achieved will continue.
On Tuesday 7/17/18, the Vestry and Council met and agreed that we will separate our ministerial, financial and worship arrangements at the end of August. In the meantime we will continue to worship together with combined services at 78 Washington St up to and including August 19.
There will be separate congregational meetings to pass the resolutions needed for this process following the service on August 12. On that Sunday we will hold one combined service at 9:00 a.m.
Our last combined service will be at the Parish Picnic in Mohegan Park on Sunday August 26. After that we will revert to separate services at our respective church buildings.
It is our hope that we can keep the friendships between us and the bonds that we have established between the two churches alive and active. We have discussed doing several things together over the course of the year, which might include Ash Wednesday and Holy Week services, a Christmas Fair, and support of one another's events. There will be separate congregational meetings to pass the resolutions needed for this process following the service on August 12.
